Environmental Issues

The variety of life on Earth, its biological diversity, is commonly referred to as biodiversity. The number of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth. Appropriate conservation and sustainable development strategies attempt to recognize this as being integral to any approach. In some way or form, almost all cultures have recognized the importance of nature and its biological diversity for their societies and have therefore understood the need to maintain it. Yet, power, greed and politics have affected the precarious balance.

(if you could not tell i copyed this!!!)
(if there are any questions comment and i'll find out the answer!!)

Watershed

Do you know what the the Chesapeake WATERSHED is?? Here are some facts!!

  • ridge of land that separates two adjacent river systems
  • It holds a special water called brackish water(fresh water+salt water = Brackish water)
  • Home to MANY animals(Maryland Blue Crab)

Here are some facts about the animals

Dozens of species of crabs and shellfish live in the Chesapeake Bay's waters, wetlands and shorelines. Some, like oysters and blue crabs, are well-known and easy to recognize. Others, such as amphipods and isopods, are not quite as familiar to most of us, but are abundant members of the Bay community. All crabs and shellfish are invertebrates, meaning they do not have a backbone.

Wetlands are transitional areas between land and water. While some wetlands are noticeably wet, others do not always have visible water. An area is defined as a wetland based on its soils and vegetation.

About 350 species of fish are known to live in the Chesapeake Bay. Some fish species are year-round residents, while others swim into the Bay from the ocean or freshwater rivers during various times of the year to feed, reproduce or find shelter.

The birds that live in the Chesapeake Bay's forests, wetlands and shorelines are some of the region's most beautiful — but vulnerable — species. While each bird has distinct behaviors and habitat needs, all are intricately entwined with the Bay's ecosystem and perform a different ecological function.

Think about all these animals next time when you throw your milk jug into the trash...

See Ya

Turtles...I love them!

I LOVE turtles...alot,but sadly
the turtles cant love us if were
killing them...Thousands of endangered loggerhead sea turtles are being killed as bycatch in the Mexican fishing industry, also when you get a plastic bag at a super market and then throw it out they some times blow away into the ocean, the turtles eat jelly fish a floating bag looks like a jelly fish ,they eat it,it gets stuck and they die :(. see the turtles up there, you know they want to live, like we want to eat candy all day!!! so get a cotton bag not paper or plastic!!! Do some good on the holiday's!

WATER,WATER,AND MORE WATER

*all facts come from John Woodwards book WATER,thank-you

water we all know it, we all use it, it covers 70% of our planet.Only 3% of our water on earth is fresh like the water in our sink, and three-quarters of that water is frozen into ice. Nearly all the rest is salt water. However water is constantly evaporating from oceans, falling as rain and continue's that cycle over again. The us' water supply it not small but not big.it is

5,000-9,999 gallons (or somting like that :))
